Recommended free antivirus software

Windows:

MLML iTech recommends using the free version of Avira Anti-Virus or AVG Anti-Virus. The free versions of Avira and AVG are intended for personal use only. Installing the free versions of AVG and Avira anti-virus on a computer owned by MLML or another state agency is a violation of the End User License Agreement that is agreed upon by the user prior to installation. If you are unsure whether or not you should install the free version, review the license agreement before installation.

Avira:
You can download the latest version of Avira from Avira's website

AVG:
You can download the latest version of AVG from AVG's website or you can download it from the AVG folder in MLMLAPPS on the fileserver \\atlantic. Instructions for installing, configuring and running AVG are located in the KnowledgeBase: AVG anti-virus User Guide for Windows.

NOTE: Be sure to update both the Antivirus application as well as the virus definitions after installation.

Mac OS X:

MLML iTech recommends using the free version of ClamX Antivirus. You can download the latest version from the ClamX website or you can download it from the Antivirus folder in MLMLAPPS on fileservermac.

NOTE: Be sure to update both the Antivirus application as well as the virus definitions after installation.

Yes, you need to install and run anti-virus software on any operating systems you are running on your computer. Whether you are running Windows as a dual-boot (Boot Camp) or virtually (VMware Fusion or Parallels), you will need to install and run anti-virus software to protect your computer from viruses and other malware.
